It Sucks to Be Popular
Gangs and piracy have been a fact of life for eons. And, throughout the ages, gold, has been the standard measure for wealth. Not in 2151. Not for a planet frantic to match the empire on its doorstep. Now, Betan relics rule.
Fleets of privateers commanded by Henry Morgan, Bjorn Diamondside and Batu Khan plunder the Empire, seeking Betan artifacts.

I'm assuming there's a back-story that explains why the machine is named McTavish. It'll be interesting to see whether that ever come to light.
I'll also be interested to see whether McTavish is developed as a character, because your design for the machine deprives you of the usual features and cues, such as eyes, facial expressions, and body language, that an artist would normally use to convey a character's disposition.
Most artists would have taken an easier route, and endowed their robot with something analogous to eyes.
Though now that I think about it, McTavish does appear to have retractable arm-like appendages. Anyway, I'll be curious to see whether the stuff I've mentioned becomes an issue, and if so, how you'll address it!

There is! Len has a published backstory, but it is in one of his novels, and I don't remember which one. Maybe he'll chime in with the info once he returns from a trip to Egypt.
McTavish's design was already spelled out in the novel, so I didn't have a whole lot of wiggle-room to design him. If I had my druthers, he probably would have come out looking like Al Williamson or Jack Davis designed him, so...
Thanks for reading and writing!
